Default cash game situation

In a recent cash game at the G a hand occured where i was facing a turn bet in a heads up pot with 3rd pair on a kq85 board. the gent in question was drunk but wasnt new to the game. i asked him nicely if he would show his hand now because i didn't know where i was at (i did this half in jest but really i would of liked him to do it) he turned his hand over showing me kq. the dealer announces that his hand is dead (as is the rule at the G. also i knew this rule before asking him) and i win the pot.

the question i want to ask is do you think i shouldn't be asking/taking advantage of the drunk guy, or is it his own fault for being drunk and stupid.

Butoff: A pre-flop position that arises at table poker when the player in the cutoff seat looks left and sees that the button is going to fold. The player in the cutoff will now be last to act for the entire hand and he knows it, even though he doesn’t actually have the button. His position is the butoff. (The abbreviation for the butoff is BO, which fits nicely, as it should, between the abbreviations for the cutoff and the button, thus: CO – BO – BN.)

Cheat's a bit harsh Brewer, i ask this occassionally and noone has ever insta-flipped face up mid-hand.

It was meant as a joke... but having said that, even if you were genuine, would you expect anyone in their right mind to show you?

Changes from day to day and place to place.

I was always under the impression that should you expose your cards you can no longer bet only call.

Being drunk nor being stupid is any protection against being set up at the poker table, however should a hand be tabled then the cards should speak.

If you are desperate enough to take the pot on a technicality against a clearly better hand you shouldnt be in the game IMO.

I think the g's rules are fairly consistent. Basically, whoever has the best hand at the river wins, however you get there is a free-for-all.

Betting out of turn is fine, making position irrelevant, whoever gets it into the pot first, stands. You can tell people what you have and its up to them to either believe you or not. Ive been there when hands have been exposed before and nobody has even bothered mentioning it until the river, then when finally someone pointed it out he could only check/call. Raises out of turn stand, even if the action before it means it is an under raise. You cant under-raise an under-raise though cos that would be crazy.

Sometimes you can buy the button and sometimes you can quadruple straddle but sometimes not. Sometimes your seat gets taken because you spent too long having a cigarette and theres a list you know.

Him exposing his cards should have been irrelevant seeing as how you can actually tell people what you have anyway.

I fucking love the g, it makes poker exciting again
